How are WebRegistration Starting Times Assigned?
In order to work smoothly, WebRegistration requires
the assignment of a registration "window" to each student. Certain
principles are used in the following order of priority in developing the
assigned start times for each term.
- Class order - seniors first, followed by juniors, sophomores and freshmen
- PreRegistration completed each term - failure to do PreRegistration will
invoke a penalty in establishing your Web Registration
starting time for coming terms (see below)
- Class conflicts - faculty were getting frustrated with the number of students
missing class in order to register. As much as possible, students
will be assigned a starting time which does not conflict with their class
schedules for the current term.
- Average priority - Over the period of four terms, each student will receive
a starting time averaging at the 50th percentile, so no one group is always
receiving the best time slots.
- Random - within the above parameters, assignment of start times will be
random and will be during regular office hours of a class day, so technical
or registration questions can be answered easily.
Failure to PreRegister when required subjects you
to a three-term penalty in the assignment of WebRegistration starting times.
For example, if you do not PreRegister in November for the winter
term, then you will have very low WebRegistration starting
times for the winter, spring and fall terms. This is necessary to
ensure that everyone participates in the PreRegistration process.
