§ Fall Course Registration for New W&L Students
Welcome to W&L! I look forward to meeting you at the check-in
on Saturday, September 5th, if not before. These are the instructions for
you to PreRegister for fall term courses, as described in the Guidebook
for New Students from Dean of First-Year Students David Leonard which was sent to
all new students earlier this summer.
(Check the Web at
http://www.wlu.edu/x7465.xml.) Earl Edwards, from Information
Technology (ITS) also sent you additional instructions
by first-class mail
in June for accessing
e-mail and the W&L network.
- What is PreRegistration? PreReg
is a web-based process designed to give undergraduate faculty an idea of
student interest in the courses scheduled to be offered and to provide
faculty advisers with information for the meetings which happen during
Orientation in September. PreRegistration has nothing to do with the actual
courses for which you may be qualified and does not result in your final
schedule, but it is a very important and required activity every term. (If
you don't PreRegister for any term, you go to the end of the WebRegistration
schedule for all of the next three
terms.) This year's PreReg for new students is between July 29 and August 19.
- Access your W&L e-mail and read the
instructions for retrieving your personal PreRegistration password which you
will need for the first step beginning July 29th.

Counts : what courses are open and how many spots the faculty have
allocated for each class. If you would like to practice WebRegistration
(what you will do with your adviser on Tuesday, September 8),
use one the following links:

- Think about which classes you
are interested in and qualified for. You will typically take
four courses in fall and winter and a physical education skills
course (100- or 200-level PE).
- Important: In early August, the Student Health
Center will place a temporary
"hold" on all new students' PreRegistration access. It will NOT prevent
your PreRegistration. This hold will be lifted once all of the required
medical and insurance forms have been received and processed by the
Health Center staff.
The Student Health Center will contact you by email. If you have questions about
what health information is still required, please contact Ms.
Brenda Clark after August 3rd at 540.458.8401 and
bclark@wlu.edu.
- PreRegister
: Beginning Wednesday, July 29, go to the
University Registrar web and click on the link

PreRegistration . Complete the following process no later than
11:59 PM (US Eastern Daylight Saving Time, 0359 GMT) on
August 19th. SORRY, NO EXTENSIONS.
- Find your Network
Account Name by the first letter (usually your
last name, same as your W&L e-mail address). The page looks like this:
- Retrieve your
PreRegistration password, if you haven't already, by
clicking the link next to your login name, where it says
"E-mail
Preregistration Password to my W&L Address".
The system will require you to authenticate who you are
by entering your regular network ("AD") login name and
password (not your Outlook e-mail information). The password is
then sent to your W&L e-mail address, arriving from
"nobody@wlu.edu".
Again, this is the page you want to be on:
- Once you have
your password, return to the PreRegistration page and click on your Network
Account Name. You will see a
popup (like one of the following) "Authentication Required" screen where you must type in your
AD Network login name in lower case letters
and then the four-digit PreRegistration password you received via e-mail.

- If you login outside
of the time window, you should be able to see a
countdown clock at the lower left to remind you of when
the window will open:
- The PreRegistration
screen has five blank fields and instructions on the
right. Read the instructions and check the information
behind each
icon.
- Once you have finished
making your selections, close your browser.
Return to PreRegistration as often
as you like before August 19
if you want to make changes or remind yourself of your selections. If you have
questions and really can't find the answer on your own using the information
above, you may e-mail

- WebRegistration for your courses
actually happens during Orientation beginning with informal meetings and/or
dinner with your adviser on Monday afternoon and evening, September 7th and
culminating with a 30-minute meeting during which you actually do the
computer work together, on Tuesday morning, September8, at a randomly
assigned time between 8:30 am and 11:30 am. You will get the time from your
Resident Adviser during Orientation.
